The wine jar plays a very important social and ceremonial role in many villages in the Grasslands of the Cameroon society.
The beaded jar is used to serve palm wine in funerals, celebration of marriages, for performing traditional rites, and as a reward from the king or Fon to his loyal subjects on special occasions. The entire structure of the wine vessel is a calabash covered in cloth and the beads sewn on it.
Artists from the Grassfields of Cameroon decorate it.
